In order to sustainably manage a valuable monument like De Mallemolen, a number of millers put their heads together in 2009 at the initiative of the municipality of Gouda. This resulted in the official establishment of the 'Association of Goudse Millers' (VGM) in 2010.

The association manages De Mallemolen. The millers of the association ensure that the mill is open to visitors every Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Provided the weather conditions permit, the mill runs and, if possible, water is actually pumped out.

The association also focuses on training new millers for the Guild of Volunteer Millers and tours are provided for school classes and other interested parties.

The maintenance of the mills is made possible by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands and the Province of South Holland .
